New on YouTube: This is metic.

metic. is now on YouTube. The trailer shows what I do in under a minute and a half. Built like a website: from code, frame by frame.

The video is hosted on YouTube and only loads when you click. Data such as your IP address is then sent to Google, including to the USA. More in the privacy policyWatch on YouTube

Since 5 October, metic. has been on YouTube. It starts with a trailer: just under a minute and a half on what I do, and what can sit underneath a website. The trailer is in German, but most of it speaks for itself.

It opens with a dot, a few lines and two words: “Genau hinsehen.” (Look closer.) Then a website builds itself, step by step: line, grid, layout, type, colour, code, online. “Most people stop here. This is where I start.” One click on X-ray, and underneath is what makes everyday work easier: bookings, enquiries, customer management, invoices, online shop, marketing, documents and analytics. Eight parts that talk to each other.

Then it goes quiet: fewer calls, less paperwork, less retyping, more time. Next, the person behind it. That is me: software developer, designer and photographer in St. Georgen am Walde, Upper Austria. Finally, everything that comes from one person: logo and brand, photography, websites and shops, software and hosting.

I built the trailer the way I build websites. Each of the seven scenes is a web page with a GSAP timeline, the same library that draws the lines on this website. A small program had Chrome record every scene frame by frame, in 4K at 60 frames per second: more than 5,000 frames. Fonts and colours come from this website, many of the sounds too, and every cut lands on the beat of the music. Everything on screen is drawn, typeset or a real recording of this website. The interfaces of the eight modules are examples with made-up names, not client projects.

On the channel, I will show how websites come together and what I pay attention to. If you would like to watch, you will find it at @MeticStudio.

The lens shows what lies beneath. Hold a finger on the page to look for yourself.
